This Saturday morning we’ll be holding the first level 1 Muay Thai Kickboxing test.
This is a really big deal to myself and the staff because it’s the first time that we’ve tested for our Kickboxing program. The test will be run by Coach Jason and Coach Scott.
In the end I’d like to see all the students gain rank in the Team Lloyd Irvin brand of Muay Thai, which is becoming more and more known.
For those not in the know about Muay Thai style Kickboxing let me fill you in.
Muay Thai is the main style of striking that we teach. It’s the art of 8 limbs and using the whole body for attacking. Students learn to use punches, kicks, knees and elbows. Of and aside from being an amazing style for self defense it’s also one heck of a workout.
We’ve been running Muay Thai at Ivey League Mixed Martial Arts for over 4 years now and it’s our biggest and most attended program. I guess the people here in Annapolis just really dig Kickboxing.
I can’t say I blame them because I find Muay Thai to be nothing shy of awesome, both for self defense and for fitness. So I’m not shocked at all that they do so well.
A lot of credit should be given to Coach Jason Ferrel. He’s one of the driving forces of Ivey League and has been the head Kickboxing coach since we opened our doors.
Muay Thai is also popular due to it’s success in MMA events like the UFC and Strikeforce. I think at this point everyone knows that it’s the best style for striking training that you can find.
So with all that said, I hope to see a lot of the students come in and take the test this Saturday! For more info on that please call the academy at – (443) 837 7100
